Our client is a massively successful Condominium and Commercial Real Estate Developer with operations across Canada and the USA. This new role will be working out of their Canadian Corporate HQ located in Mid-Town Toronto. The office provides free parking and is surrounded by great amenities. This role is an integral part of the senior management team, as well as a key leader within the financial reporting and corporate finance team. The position involves daily business partnering with the executive leadership team. About the Role

This role takes ownership of financial statement preparation, management reporting packages, and treasury processes for various real estate initiatives. You will receive training in your initial weeks, gradually taking on responsibilities in these areas. The role offers a broad range of experiences beyond typical siloed responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Statements: Lead preparation of financial statements and management reporting packages for up to five major real estate developments, including budgeting and forecasting processes. Prepare monthly and year-end financial statements.
  • Treasury: Prepare monthly financial draw packages, ensuring effective communication with construction teams and third-party consultants for timely funding. Oversee cash flows, account reconciliations, project cash management, and ensure project funding is available. Sign off on monthly bank reconciliations, HST filings, and internal documentation.
  • Reporting & Financial Analysis: Prepare monthly management discussion and analysis (MD&A) packages, perform financial analysis, and present verbal and written commentary.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis: Review budgets and forecasts, identify potential cost savings, and collaborate with management and construction teams. Prepare pro-forma reports, assess financial performance, recommend actions for project completion, and provide quarterly partner reporting on budget and operational items.
  • Legal & Administrative: Verify and reconcile construction contracts, customizations, and upgrade verifications.
  • Business Partnering: Support team members and other departments as required.
  • Corporate & Indirect Tax: Assist with corporate income tax forecasting and budgeting.
  • External Audit: Participate in and lead the external audit process, addressing queries as needed.
  • Special Projects: Contribute to ad-hoc projects, including new hire training, supervising junior staff, process enhancements, and system upgrades focused on data visualization and automation. Manage new business accounting, drive improvements in financial reporting processes, and develop a process improvement and change management mindset within the team.
  • Internal Control: Implement and monitor internal controls across critical processes, ensuring adherence and efficiency within the internal control framework.
About the Leader
  • CPA designation required
  • Preference for candidates with real estate industry experience or a strong professional interest in this field
  • Experience with real estate developers or background in Big 6 Firms is highly desired
  • Strong communication skills
  • Full-time, in-office work (5 days per week) required
